A typical Etsy sale costs a US seller about 10% to 11% in fees: $0.20 to list, 6.5% of the item price plus shipping, and 3% + $0.25 for payment processing. If the order came through Etsy's Offsite Ads, add 15% (or 12% for larger shops), capped at $100. The calculator shows each fee and your profit after materials and postage.

Worked examples
| Sale | Listing | Transaction 6.5% | Processing | Total fees | Payout |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| $25 item + $5 shipping, no tax | $0.20 | $1.95 | $1.15 | $3.30 (11.0%) | $26.70 |
| $40 item + $6 shipping, 8% tax | $0.20 | $2.99 | $1.74 | $4.93 (10.7%) | $41.07 |
| $120 item from an Offsite Ad (15%) | $0.20 | $7.80 | $3.85 | $29.85 incl. $18 ad fee | $90.15 |
In the second example the item cost $12 in materials and the label $5, so the seller keeps $24.07 profit. The third example shows how much an Offsite Ad can cost: the same fees as any sale plus 15% of the order, which takes the total from about 10% to almost 25%.
How each Etsy fee works
Listing fee: $0.20
You pay $0.20 each time you publish or renew a listing, whether or not it sells. Listings expire after four months. If you list several of the same item, Etsy charges another $0.20 to renew the listing each time one sells, so a sale effectively carries one listing fee. The calculator includes one $0.20 fee per sale.
Transaction fee: 6.5%
Etsy charges 6.5% of the price you display plus what you charge for shipping and gift wrap. Optional personalization fees count as part of the price. For US sellers, the transaction fee does not apply to sales tax.
Payment processing: 3% + $0.25
Sellers whose bank account is in the US pay 3% of the total sale price plus $0.25 per order. Unlike the transaction fee, this percentage is charged on the full order total, including tax and shipping, so the calculator asks for the buyer's tax rate.
Offsite Ads: 15% or 12%, max $100
Etsy advertises listings on other sites, and if a buyer clicks one of those ads and buys from your shop within 30 days, you pay an advertising fee on that order. Shops under $10,000 in sales over the prior 365 days pay 15% and can opt out. Once a shop reaches $10,000, the fee is 12% and participation is required for the life of the shop. The fee on one order never exceeds $100.
Optional Etsy costs
Some costs are not charged per sale but still come out of your Etsy balance, so count them in your monthly numbers rather than in a single item's price:
- Etsy Ads: you set a daily budget for promoting listings on Etsy itself. If a specific sale came from an ad click, enter what you spent under More options to see its real profit.
- Etsy Plus: $10 a month. It includes 15 listing credits (worth $3) and $5 in Etsy Ads credits each cycle, which expire if unused.
- Pattern: Etsy's own website builder costs $15 a month after a 30-day free trial. Listings shown only on your Pattern site have no listing fee.
- Shipping labels: labels bought through Etsy are priced by carrier, weight, size and destination. Enter what you paid as postage in the calculator.
How to price Etsy items for profit
- Start from the profit you want. Switch to Price for a target profit, enter your materials and postage, and the calculator gives the lowest price that keeps your target after fees.
- Price in a possible Offsite Ad. If you cannot opt out, check your price with the 12% option too, so an ad sale does not turn into a loss.
- Include shipping in the math. Etsy takes 6.5% of the shipping you charge, so "free" shipping built into the price costs about the same.
- List in your account currency. It avoids the 2.5% conversion fee; buyers still see prices in their own currency.
Etsy vs. eBay fees
On a typical order Etsy takes a smaller share than eBay: around 11% on Etsy versus around 14% to 15% on eBay for most categories. An Offsite Ad sale reverses that. The eBay fee calculator runs the same item through both, plus a direct PayPal payment.
Limits: this calculator covers sellers with a US bank account. It does not include Etsy Ads daily budgets (enter your ad spend for the sale under More options), shipping labels bought on Etsy, instant transfer fees or one-time shop set-up fees. Full method on How we calculate.
Frequently asked questions
What are Etsy's fees per sale in 2026?
For a US seller: a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping and gift wrap, and a payment processing fee of 3% + $0.25 on the order total including tax and shipping. Offsite Ads add 15% or 12% when a sale comes from one.
How much does Etsy take from a $30 sale?
On a $25 item with $5 shipping and no tax, Etsy's fees are $0.20 + $1.95 + $1.15 = $3.30, about 11% of the sale, assuming the sale did not come from an Offsite Ad.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee applies to the price you charge for shipping and gift wrapping as well as the item price, and the payment processing fee is charged on the whole order total.
Can I opt out of Etsy Offsite Ads?
Only while your shop has made less than $10,000 in sales over the prior 365 days. Once you reach $10,000, participation is required at a 12% fee for the lifetime of your shop. Either way, the fee on a single order is capped at $100.
Does Etsy charge the transaction fee on sales tax?
Not for US sellers. Etsy's fee policy says that if you sell from the US, the transaction fee and Offsite Ads fee do not apply to sales tax. The payment processing fee is still calculated on the total including tax.
